Burn Permits
Georgia has a burn ban in effect from May 1st through October 1st each year.
A burn permit is required for burning all natural vegetation that is hand piled, including leaves that fell on the premises, vegetative debris, disposal from storm damage, weed abatement, and disease and pest prevention. It is unlawful to burn man-made materials such as tires, household garbage, and lumber.
Remember:
- Never leave a fire unattended
- Have a shovel or rake, and a charged water hose nearby
- If a fire spreads, contact 9-1-1 as soon as possible
- The Fire Department has the authority to extinguish a fire if it is deemed to pose a health or fire hazard
