FRAUD ALERT:  There are fraudulent websites advertising Weapons Carry Licenses that can be purchased online.  The only legitimate place that you can apply for a Georgia Weapons Carry License is through the Probate Court in the  County in which you reside.  Any entity or agency, other than a Georgia Probate Court, claiming to offer a Georgia Weapons Carry License is not legitimate.  We offer a convenient online Weapons Carry License application.

This office cannot provide direction or guidance on the ramifications of the "Constitutional Carry" legislation which is now in effect other than to note that this legislation did not affect the issuance of Weapons Carry Licenses.

**All Weapons Carry License require an appointment at this time, both new and renewals.  Please call to schedule an appointment*

• Weapons Carry Licenses are issued Monday through Friday from 8:00 A.M. - 4:00 P.M.

• Applicants must be at least 21 years old and a resident of Banks County.  

• Fingerprinting for a Weapons License is conducted at the Banks County Sheriff's Office.

• Applicant must present a valid photo ID with a current physical address.  If I.D. shows a P. O. Box, other documentation must be presented to prove applicant is a Banks County resident. 

• New Applicant:  Applications may be completed online but must appear in person to complete the application process.  After application is completed the applicant will go to the Banks County Sheriff's Office for fingerprints and background check. Failure to do so within 5 days of application will result in dismissal of the application.  Cost of Application and background check is $75.00. ($30.00 for Probate Court, cash or check and $45.00 for Sheriff's office, cash only)

• Renewal Applicant:  Weapons Carry License is considered a renewal when applied for within 90 days of the expiration date or no more than 30 days past the expiration date.  Renewals do not require new fingerprints but do require a new background check.  Cost of Application and background check is $50.00 ($30.00 for Probate Court, cash only and $20.00 for Sheriff's office, cash only).

• If applicant is approved, the applicant will be contacted by phone within two-three weeks to pick up the license. If the applicant is not eligible, a notice of ineligibility will be mailed along with procedures for requesting a formal hearing.

• License valid for five years.  

      IF LICENSE LOST OR STOLEN:

• Must be reported to sheriff’s office and a copy of such report must be provided to the Probate Court.
• Must be reported to Probate Court within 48 hours of the loss.
• Replacement licenses cost $6.00.
• Only Weapons Carry Licenses issued by Banks County can be replaced in this county.
